Bread Canapés for Small Birds
Thick oval bread supports hollowed to hold small birds and fried until golden.

Step 1
Cut six slices from a stale sandwich loaf, each one and a half inches thick. Trim the corners neatly to make rounded pieces two inches long by one and a half inches wide.
Step 2
With a sharp knife, scoop a shallow oval bed lengthwise along each piece so it can support a small bird.
Step 3
Heat canola oil for deep-frying in a suitable fryer, following its operating instructions and fill limits. Fry the bread supports until golden, then lift and drain thoroughly.
Step 4
Keep hot and use as supports for cooked small birds.
